Jesus did/is doing some amazing things in these folks lives. I'm not talking about Churchianity, or putting on a mask and pretending that everything is o.k. Jesus commanded us to die to ourselves, our rights, being first, being comfortable, our pride, our earthly reason, our selfishness, and our hate. He requires us to love folks even when it is hard to do so, or when we don't feel like it. If we don't do these things, or desire to do these things then we should not call ourselves "Christians".
He wants us to look at the things that are not seen, as though they were seen, and to believe that He can do anything. He wants us to "resist the devil, and he will flee from you, draw near to God and He will draw near to you".
I am still learning what it is to be/do these things. It is hard to die daily and intentionally put others before myself. Through Christ, it is doable. I think God for Jesus, who freed me from my sin, and Hell (which I earned). Freeing me from racism, hatred, violence, and rebellion against Him.
"For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the very power of God" 1 Cor 1:18
Keep in mind, these are not folks who just "pulled themselves up by their bootstraps" and got better or improved their situations. Also, please don't look at them as poorer folks from a poorer country. They believed that Jesus is who He said He was and that He still has power to save us from ourselves and our situations.
These folks were straight with me and shared their hearts. They allowed Jesus to show them who he was, and became fools to the world.
